Evaluate the publications for authority. For example, what are the credentials of the editorial board members and/or advisory committees for each journal?
Evaluate SLR and EBLIP as resources. What topics interest you the most? What research studies and articles do you want to read and why? Which ones relate to your present practice? Provide citations for the articles you want to read in a References section at the end of your blog post.

What is the process for selecting and publishing manuscripts for each journal?
- School Library Research accepts original research on instructional theory, teaching methods, and critical issues relevant to school library programs. Manuscripts are reviewed in double-blind process by 3-5 reviewers and must receive majority approval from the board before published. Authors can submit manuscripts through the online submission form or email to the SLR editors and must follow the submission format that is outlined in the SLR Submission Guide.
Evaluate the publications for authority. For example, what are the credentials of the editorial board members and/or advisory committees for each journal?
- SLR is a publication of the American Association of School Librarians which is a division of the American Library Association.
- The SLR editorial board members are faculty members of library programs across the United States and Canada.
- Submissions are peer-reviewed with a double-blind process.

- Studies in the SLR that I am interested in are about information literacy of high school students, particularly the use of library digital resources, and the benefits and best practices of collaborative efforts between teachers and librarians.
- I would like to read “’Just Let Me Go at It:’ Exploring Students’ Use and Perceptions of Guided Inquiry” and “School Librarians as Co-Teachers of Literacy: Librarian Perceptions and Knowledge in the Context of the Literacy Instruction Role” because these are topics that apply to my current position as a teacher as well as my future as a high school librarian. I’m curious about why students resist using the library databases over Google or other search engines for research. As a high school librarian, I would like to create partnerships with teachers to promote information literacy and need data to show the benefits of these collaborations.

What is the process for selecting and publishing manuscripts for each journal?
- EBLIP accepts manuscripts of original work by the author(s). Publication is based on a double-blind peer review though editors have the final decision. Submissions should follow the style guidelines in the EBLIP Publication Manual. EBLIP accepts several types of submissions: research articles, review articles, evidence-based practice, opinion pieces, evidence summaries, classic reviews, features, news, data sharing, and letters to the editor. There is also a Research in Practice column which accepts guest columnists.
Evaluate the publications for authority. For example, what are the credentials of the editorial board members and/or advisory committees for each journal?
- The EBLIP is a publication of the University of Alberta Learning Services.
- The EBLIP editorial board is an international collection of library science faculty members.
- Articles are peer-reviewed using a double-blind review process.

- Some of the topics in EBLIP that are interesting pertain to the use of social media in the library and the information seeking behavior of students.
- Articles that I would like to read are “Valued Academic Library Services Are Not Necessarily the Ones That Are Used Most Frequently, Students’ Service and Social Media Communication Priorities Should Also Be Considered” and “Undergraduate Students Seek Librarian Assistance Only After They Have Searched Independently Without Success.” Social media can reach students who may not visit the library and can promote library services to a larger audience. I am curious about the culture and success of libraries with a significant social media presence. I also want a better understanding of students’ utilization of library resources particularly library digital resources and databases.
