Musings on School Library Design

Name of mentor's library: Little Cypress Mauriceville High School Library

Five factors to consider in the redesign process:
  • Shift mindset to a Learning Commons
  • Flexible seating
  • Flexible technology
  • Collaborative work spaces
  • Create student ownership

The goal for the redesign of the LCM library is to shift the mindset of faculty, students, and administration to view the library as a Learning Commons. To achieve this shift, the layout of the space can be changed and regrouped to give students options for individual and collaborative work situations as well as a space to display student products. Along with providing charging stations throughout, the library can provide laptops or tablet devices to check-out for use anywhere in the library, freeing students from the stationary desktop computers.
