Cool Tools for School, Thing 6: Curation Tools - Review

In my classroom, I use several curation tools to gather and share resources for my students and other teachers. For lesson organization and delivery, I use OneNote, which is like a digital three-ring binder. Diigo is a great tool to share links. It is easy to create lists, or Outliners, and you can share, embed, or post your lists on social media. I jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon several years ago and have many personal and professional boards.

After reading the blog post, Are You a Curator or a Dumper, I realize that many of my lists, notebooks, and boards are random compilations of resources and not carefully curated collections. Author Jennifer Gonzalez gives a great example of what good curating looks like and explains why dumping is bad for the brain. She also gives some excellent tips for improving your collections.

One tool that I am not familiar with is Scoop.it.  It was easy to create an account and to get started with a topic. I created a topic board for Digital Creation Tools. I like the visual layout that Scoop.it creates that is similar to Pinterest or Paper.li, however, the basic account does not allow users to embed lists and is limited to one topic page and fifty scoops per page.
